Selected for Osaka Prefecture’s Perovskite Solar Cell Development and Demonstration Support Project Subsidy Program
Advancing the Development of Laser Processing Technologies to Support the Commercialization and Mass Production of Perovskite Solar Cells
Mitsuboshi Diamond Industrial Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Settsu City, Osaka Prefecture; President and CEO: Masaki Wakabayashi; hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) is pleased to announce that its proposal, “Development of Laser Processing for Perovskite Solar Cells,” has been selected under the Osaka Prefecture FY2026 Perovskite Solar Cell Development and Demonstration Support Project Subsidy Program.
Through this project, the Company will promote research and development of high-precision laser processing technologies that support the commercialization and mass production of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), contributing to the advancement of the next-generation energy industry and the realization of a decarbonized society.
This selection follows our previous initiative under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry GX Supply Chain Development Support Program, announced in February 2026.
1. Background
Perovskite solar cells are attracting attention as next-generation solar cells because they are lightweight and highly flexible, making them suitable for installation on building walls and curved surfaces where conventional silicon-based solar cells are difficult to deploy.
However, the establishment of high-quality and stable manufacturing processes is essential for their commercialization and mass production. In particular, highly precise laser processing technology is required for the “patterning process,” which is used to efficiently extract generated electricity.
2. Overview of the Selected Project
Project Theme
Development of Laser Processing for Perovskite Solar Cells.
Technology Overview
This project focuses on the development of patterning technologies required in the manufacturing process of perovskite solar cells.
By utilizing laser processing equipment, optical instruments, and measurement devices, the Company will establish an R&D platform for optimizing processing conditions and evaluating performance. In addition, laser beams will be freely shaped using diffractive optical elements and spatial light modulators to verify damage-free processing techniques.

3. Our Initiatives
The Company has accumulated technologies and expertise through its precision processing operations for hard and brittle materials such as glass, flat panel displays, and semiconductors.
In this project, leveraging this knowledge and experience, the Company will:
- Develop laser processing equipment capable of highly repeatable precision machining
- Establish technologies for process optimization and performance evaluation
- Advance processing technologies for perovskite solar cells
Through these efforts, the Company aims to achieve stable processing quality that accommodates differences in cell structures and material characteristics, and to establish laser processing technologies that support the commercialization and mass production of perovskite solar cells.
4. Future Outlook
Through this project, the Company will further advance laser processing technologies for perovskite solar cells and contribute to the growth of the next-generation energy industry in Japan.
In addition, by applying the technologies developed through this initiative to support the social implementation and mass production of perovskite solar cells, the Company will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
